Richard Dale Sheriff

Mr. Richard Dale Sheriff, 49, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away Sunday, February 5, 2006 at Tranquility Hospice. He was born January 12, 1957 in Toccoa, Georgia the son of Mr. Jesse Vester Sheriff, Jr. and Mrs. Peggy Sue Hallford Sheriff. He married Katherine Elaine Carr on August 30, 1980. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Mableton for over ten years and then attended New Georgia Baptist Church under the direction of Dr. Roy Crowe. He was a current and active member of the First Baptist Church of Douglasville for five years where he was a member of David and Debbie White’s Sunday School Class. He was a Project Manager for Johnson Architectural Meta Company (JAMCO) having served there for over 20 years. Several buildings over twenty stories high across the Atlanta skyline will reflect his determination and motivation. He served as a Mason and Shriner and was very active in the Republican Party. He was an avid motorcyclist and was a member of the SETRA Motorcycle Club and the American Motorcycle Association. He competed and coached his son in Motor Cross Sports across the United States and enjoyed coaching his son in two National Events at Loretta Lynn’s. He also coached soccer for the South West Cobb Destroyers. He was very supportive and active in his children’s college education at the University of Georgia in Athens where he attended numerous events. He was a constant supporter and motivator of his daughter Katherine during her education in Athens believing she would attend UGA Law School even before she received her official acceptance. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mrs. Katherine Elaine Carr Sheriff of Powder Springs; two daughters, Katherine Dale Sheriff and Kimberly Geneva Sheriff both of Powder Springs; one son, Richard Thomas Sheriff of Powder Springs; his parents, Jesse Vester Sheriff, Jr. and Peggy Sue Hallford Sheriff of Mableton; one brother and sister-in-law, Jesse Vester Sheriff, III and Amy Sheriff of Powder Springs; paternal grandmother, Frances Sheriff of Eastanollee, GA; nieces, Kelsey Sheriff, Sydney Sheriff, Julie Graff, and Stephanie Mathis; nephews, Joshua Torres and Britt Carr; great nephew, Bradley Graff. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, February 9, 2006 at 11:00 AM from the First Baptist Church of Douglasville with Dr. John Pennington officiating. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens in the Garden of Remembrance. Pallbearers will be Sammy Bereznak, Jim Brannon, Jim Ford, Dillon Winship, Gary Weekley, and Jeff Hallford. Honorary pallbearers will be Sean Dukes, Larry Boggs, Rob Howard, and Steve Huggins. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Wednesday, February 8, 2006 from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM.
