Mr. Richard Reed Rakestraw, age 63, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Wellstar Cobb Hospital following an extended illness. He was born September 27, 1946 in Powder Springs, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Harry Almain Rakestraw and the late Mrs. Lois Metcalf Rakestraw Grogan. He married Brenda Gail Elliott on November 5, 1969 in Ringgold, Georgia. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Mableton. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Marine Corp. Mr. Rakestraw was a mechanic for Thyssen Krupp Elevator Company having retired following 37 years of dedicated service. He was an avid hunter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 40 years, Mrs. Brenda Gail Elliott Rakestraw on October 14, 2009. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Coy and Kathy Rakestraw of Lithia Springs and Chris and Savanna Rakestraw of Alpharetta; sister, Vivian Crutchfield of Lithia Springs; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Gloria Rakestraw of Dallas; 3 grandchildren, Coy Christopher Rakestraw, Austin Tyler Rakestraw, and Emily Brooke Rakestraw; 2 unborn grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 2:00 PM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Shattles officiating. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
