Richard Arlen Worthan

Mr. Richard Arlen Worthan, age 87, of Douglasville passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024. He was born August 25, 1936 in Douglasville to the late Mr. John Worthan and the late Mrs. Katie Worthan.

Mr. Worthan was a devoted member of the Sunset Hills Baptist Church and served there for many years. A man of many passions, Richard found joy in playing golf. His unwavering support for the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs showcased his enthusiastic spirit for sports. Beyond his community involvement and hobbies, Richard also served his country with honor in the Navy. His dedication to both his nation and his fellow servicemen reflected his selflessness and patriotism. Richard's greatest love, however, was reserved for his family, whom he cherished dearly. His devotion knew no bounds, especially when it came to his grandchildren, who held a special place in his heart.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Joyce Worthan; brothers, Frank Worthan, Charlie Worthan, Tom Worthan, J.W. Worthan, Hubert Worthan, Claude Worthan, Carl Worthan; sisters, Virginia Worthan and Lois Bolding.

He is survived by his daughters, Shay Powell of Douglasville, Joy (Fred) Daniell of Villa Rica; sister, Martha Foster of Douglasville; brother, Raymond (Pat) Worthan of Douglasville; grandchildren, Jarod (Kristen) Powell, Bryan (Lindsey) Daniell, Katie (Colt) Godfrey; great grandchildren, Elliot, Autumn, Henry, Rhett; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will take place at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Dr. Jim Grieme and Reverend R.C. Ikey Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Douglasville City Cemetery.
