Mr. Robert Arwin Wilbanks, Sr., age 75, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2009. He was born May 31, 1934 in Atlanta, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Bert Arwin Wilbanks and the late Mrs. Lucille Marshall Wilbanks. At the age of 6, his mother passed away. His father remarried Emily Maude Parton Wilbanks who raised him as her own. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Billie Jean Brown on June 6, 1953 in Dallas, Georgia. He attended Bright Star Seventh Day Adventist Church. He worked for Sherwin Williams for many years before opening his own home decorating center. Mr. Wilbanks was not only a hard working man, he was also a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved hunting and fishing. He competed in and won many fishing tournaments. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Wilbanks and brother, David Wilbanks. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Billie Jean Wilbanks of Powder Springs; daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Bobby McLarty of Winston, son, Robert Wilbanks, Jr., son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Lorrie Wilbanks, daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ray King of Cartersville and Crystal and Michael Liedke of Hiram; sister, Ann Wilbanks Chapman of Smyrna; brothers, Ronnie Wilbanks of Austell, Larry Wilbanks of Cartersville, Bert Wilbanks of Carrollton, and Edward Wilbanks of Clarksville, Arkansas; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 2:00 PM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Clark and Pastor Harold Peggau officiating. Interment will follow at Mozley Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Wednesday, August 5, 2009 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour.
