Robert S. Bailey was born on August 12, 1934 in Tampa, Florida to the late Harry Sr. and Ruth Bailey. On October 4, 2008 Robert Bailey’s purpose on earth was fulfilled and he was called home to be with his Father in Heaven. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 50 years, Mrs. Frances D. Bailey, a son, Lt. Col. (retired) Brent Glenn Bailey, Sr. and his wife Rhonda; a daughter, Ms. Brigitte Bailey, two brothers, Dr. Harry A. Bailey, Jr. and his wife Mary and Dr. Ronald Bailey, a sister, Ms. Gloria Bailey Cole; two grandchildren, Miss Brittany M. Bailey and Mr. Brent Glenn Bailey, Jr.; one step-grandchild, Antony Hutchins, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, relatives and friends. Robert Bailey grew up in Ft. Pierce, Florida where he attended and graduated from Lincoln Park Academy in 1952 with his high school diploma. He later attended and graduated from Florida A&M University in 1956 in Tallahassee, Florida with a Bachelors of Arts degree in English. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant where he faithfully served his country for 21 ½ years retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. His career afforded him the opportunity to travel all over the world including Germany, Hawaii and two tours in Vietnam. His awards and decorations include: Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Upon his retirement from the military in 1978, Robert spent the next 19 ½ years serving the State of Georgia in various capacities culminating as an Emergency Planner for the Georgia Emergency Management Agency. Robert Bailey accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He attended and served the Fort McPherson Protestant Chapel for over 34 years to include: Chapel Council Congressional Representative, Lay Reader, Usher, and Protestant Men of the Chapel. He and his wife Frances devoted other volunteer time to providing and bringing inspiration to cancer patients at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Atlanta, Georgia for 7 years. As an avid golfer for over 40 years, you could always find him enjoying a round of golf in his spare time or chipping golf balls in his backyard; this was his favorite past time. The Homegoing Service for LTC (Ret) Robert S. Bailey will be Friday, October 10, 2008 at 11:00 AM from the Ft. McPherson Protestant Chapel. He will lie in state at the chapel from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour. Interment and Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 PM at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton with military honors rendered by the Georgia Army National Guard.
