Mrs. Ruby Maye Jones Goodwin, age 100, of Lithia Springs, Georgia passed away Friday, December 20, 2019. She was born July 31, 1919 in Melrose (Curry County), New Mexico, the daughter of the late Mr. Roy Charles Jones and the late Mrs. Avis Swopes Jones. Mrs. Goodwin graduated from Melrose High School in 1936. She served as Deputy Treasurer of Curry County in Clovis, New Mexico for seven years. She married Rayburn "Ray" Goodwin on July 3, 1943 in Clovis, New Mexico while he was stationed at Clovis Air Force Base. In 1945, after WWII, they made their home in Atlanta, Georgia and later moved to Douglas County in 1976. Mrs. Goodwin was employed as a bookkeeper for Sterling Drugs, now known as Sanofi Synthelabo, Inc., and retired in December, 1981 after 32 years of service. She was a member of Lithia Springs First Baptist Church, where she taught both the P.L.T. and T.E.L. Sunday School Classes. Mrs. Goodwin was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Austell Chapter #314 – Post Matron.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Rayburn Clay Goodwin; her sister, Thelma Coe Thompson; two brothers and sisters-in-laws, two great nieces, Crystal and Kathy.
Mrs. Goodwin is survived by a special niece and caretaker, Linda Goodwin Southards and her husband, Sidney Southards of Lithia Springs; brother-in-law and his wife, Louie and Jan Goodwin of Yuma, Arizona; nieces and nephews, Woody and Susan Coe of Lovington, New Mexico, Wayne and Ann Coe of Sunbright, Tennessee, Susan Goodwin of Atlanta, Georgia, Becky Goodwin and Sam Templeman of Hampton, Georgia, Carol and Lane Braswell of Canton, Georgia, David and Kathy Thomas of Bonaire, Georgia, Tina Goodwin of Monroe, Georgia, Gale Goodwin Sims of Lagrange, Georgia, Cindy Goodwin Galloway, of Ellijay, Georgia, Stephanie Goodwin of Colorado, Lori Ann Goodwin Wertz of Yuma, Arizona, Terri Wyatt of Temple, Georgia, Eddie Goodwin of Marietta, Georgia; great nieces and nephew, Angie, Tammy, Stacy and Eric; great, great nieces and nephews, Michael, Megan, Briana, Mia, Caroline, Olivia, Randy, Shelby, Lari, Eli, James, Kylen, Makala, Tray, Zane and Gavin; great, great, great niece and nephew, Alice and Bryce also survive.
The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home of Douglasville Monday, December 23, 2019 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted Monday December 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Brother Virgil Smith officiating. Interment will be Friday, December 27, 2019 at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Alpharetta, Georgia.
