Ruth Brown

Ruth Fuller Brown was born January 25, 1920 to Ben and Pearl Fuller in the small rural community of New Georgia. She had four brothers and one sister. Her family moved to Villa Rica when her father became the chief of police.In her late teens, Ruth met a young fellow by the name of Henry Grady Brown. They courted and fell in love. Ruth and Grady were married in 1939. Soon thereafter, they relocated to Nashville, Tennessee for a short time before returning home. Upon returning to Georgia, Grady realized he had a very strong entrepreneurial drive. He had worked in the hosiery business for several years and felt he was ready to establish his own business. He opened Jean Hosiery Mill, and a few years later opened a finishing plant, Golden City Hosiery Mill. At that time, Ruth was employed as a foreman at Lockheed. Her division was responsible for examining the hulls of the aircrafts. Ruth was always very proud of her attainment of this job since she was the only woman assigned to manage a group of men, which was unheard of at the time. In addition, she was one of very few foremen who did not have a college degree. She attained the position through hard work, determination, and strong work ethics- things that Ruth has held true to all her life. The couple was blessed with two daughters: Barbara Jean Brown and Phyllis Ann Brown Woodall. After leaving Lockheed, Ruth began working for the family hosiery business.Ruth has many passions in her life. Her greatest love was for her Lord and church. So in addition to her the roles of wife, mother, homemaker, and employee, Ruth was very active in her church, First Baptist Church of Villa Rica. For many years, she served as a Sunday school teacher for the 14-16 year old girls as well as being a long-standing member of the WMU. Later in life, she was a member of the HHH class as well as the JOY class. Ruth also prided herself on being a good cook. However, those who have eaten her cooking will agree that this is a gross understatement. Prior to moving to the Stewart House, she used her cooking to entertain friends and family as well as to minister to others in their time of sickness or loss. Later in life, Ruth got the entrepreneurial bug herself and decided to start her own business, Villa Outlet, which sold the family’s hosiery products directly to the public. Ruth worked in and managed this successful business for many years. She also leased and managed family rental properties. If you spend just five minutes with her, you will certainly hear that her favorite past time is spending time with family and friends, which has grown to include 2 daughters, a son-in-law, six grandchildren plus six wives/husbands, and ten great grandchildren. In 2005, after 66 happy years of marriage, Grady passed away. Ruth would be the first to tell you, she had been truly blessed by the Lord in this life here on earth and looked forward to what her heavenly Father has promised awaits her in Heaven. However, until He called her home, she chose to wake up with a smile on her face feeling blessed to have each new day and enjoyed loving life and fellowship with her family, old friends, and her newly found Stewart House friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Henry Grady Brown and brothers, James Fuller, Ray Fuller, Woodrow Fuller, Clifford Fuller and great granddaughter, Hollis Hyneman.She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Dr. Steve Woodall of Villa Rica, Barbara Jean Brown of Carrollton; brother, Ralph Fuller of Villa Rica; grandchildren and spouses, Lisa and Tim Sullivan of Carrollton, Kevin and Tracy Myrick of Villa Rica, Christiana and Rev. Mark Sly of Birmingham, AL, Amalie and Heath Hyneman of Villa Rica, Dr. Niles and Sarah Woodall of Villa Rica and Whitney and Billy Lichtner of Birmingham, AL; great-grandchildren, Emma Ruth and Graeme Sullivan of Carrollton, Lindsey (Myrick) and Daniel Carlile of Douglasville, Mitchell and Matthew Myrick of Villa Rica, Avery, Ayden and Aminalee Sly of Birmingham, AL, Hudson, Layton and Henry Durham Hyneman all of Villa Rica; great-great grandchild, Cailyn Carlile of Douglasville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica, Thursday, November 29, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, November 30, 2012 at 2:00 PM from the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica with Rev. Mark Sly, Rev. Danny McKay, and Rev. Jeff Powell officiating. Interment will follow in Meadowbrook Memory Gardens. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Dr. Steve Woodall, Dr. Niles Woodall, Kevin Myrick, Tim Sullivan, Heath Hyneman, Billy Lichtner, Rev. Mark Sly.
