Ruth Carolyn Smallwood Weaver, 75, a lifelong resident of Villa Rica, passed away June 25, 2018, at her home after waging a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on May 16, 1943, the youngest daughter of J.E. Smallwood and Carolyn Lorene Deal Smallwood. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Villa Rica.After graduation from Villa Rica High School in 1961, Carolyn went to work in Atlanta and soon met the love of her life, Glenn Weaver, also from Villa Rica. They were married in 1962 until his death in 2014. Carolyn had always dreamed of becoming a teacher, and in the early 1970s began work as a substitute teacher and later as a teacherâs aide at Villa Rica Primary. Soon afterward, she enrolled at West Georgia College and began study to become a Special Education teacher, completing her B.S. in Special Education (Cum Laude) in 1983. She would later earn her M Ed. in Special Education in 1987. She was a very dedicated, repected, and much loved Special Education teacher in the Carroll County School system for twenty years, teaching at Villa Rica Middle and Central Middle, twice earning Teacher of the Year honors at her respective schools. Carolyn and her husband Glenn loved to travel. She visited Egypt, the British Isles, most of Western Europe, Canada, and much of the United States. Just a year ago she traveled to Niagara Falls with her sister and best friend Marie Cole. She also loved the Florida beaches and spent much of her vacation time with her family there. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a caring, warm person that made everyone around her feel loved. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Glenn Weaver, her parents, and two brothers, Rev Bobby Smallwood (Wylene) of Villa Rica and Donald Smallwood (Liz) of Texas. She is survived by a son, Mike Weaver (Leah) of Carrollton, daughter Sheri Weaver of Villa Rica, grandsons Matthew and Andrew Weaver of Bremen, and granddaughters Angela West, Heather West and Emalee McLendon of Villa Rica. She is also survived by two brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smallwood (Shirley), Mr. and Mrs. David Smallwood (Gail) of Villa Rica, a sister, Marie Cole of Temple, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.In keeping with her wishes, her body was cremated. The family will receive visitors at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica, Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 2 â 4 PM.
