Sergeant Charles “Chuck” Horton Morgan, age 70, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Piedmont Hospital. He was born May 14, 1939 in Cartersville, Georgia the son of the late Mr. William Morgan and the late Mrs. Bessie Ponder Morgan. He married Eleanor Whitehill on March 2, 1963 in Atlanta. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Douglasville. He was serving the community as a Sergeant for the Douglas County Sheriff Department where he served for over 15 years. He served as an official for the Georgia Football Officials Association for over 20 years. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed antique cars. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Morgan. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Eleanor Whitehill Morgan of Douglasville; daughter, Marisa Brooks of Douglasville; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Jeffery and Jennifer Morgan of Bremen; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley Hancock of Rome, Jean and Larry Causby of Rome, and Kathy and Edward Akins of Rockmart; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and India Morgan of Pensacola, FL; 10 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 3:00 PM from Beulah Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Watters and Rev. Wayne Bray officiating. Musical selections will be rendered by Terry Pearman. Sgt. Morgan will lie in state at the church on Sunday from 2:30 PM until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the U.S. Military Honor Guard and Departmental Honors will be provided by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Morgan, Dustin Morgan, Andrew Morgan, Jason King, Scotty Hancock, Greg Hancock, Kenny Shaw and Dustin Streetman. Honorary escort will be members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
