Sharon Ann Champion

June 10, 1944 — May 29, 2025

Sharon Ann Creach Champion, 80, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025. She was born on June 10, 1944 in Wayne County, Indiana to the late Olive L. Creach and Robert Creach.

Sharon lived in Eaton, Ohio for the first four years of her life, her family then moved to Haines City, Florida where she started first grade. Shortly after, Sharon's family moved to Miami, where she attended Morning Side Elementary School and graduated from Miami Edison High School in 1962. She met her late husband, Jerry, in Tampa, Florida while visiting a friend over the summer of 1960 and they were married in Miami on July 14, 1961. Sharon and Jerry lived briefly in Tampa, Florida while Jerry finished his Air Force duty, then moved to Childersburg, Alabama, and finally to Atlanta in 1963. Jerry was a firefighter for the City of Atlanta and Sharon worked at the PX at Fort McPherson. On July 4, 1964, Sharon and Jerry moved into their final residence in Douglas County where they spent their lives together. In December of 1964, Sharon had her son, Jeff, and in September of 1970, she had her daughter, Sherry.

Sharon spent her early years as a stay at home mom, by the early 1970s, she was assisting Jerry with clock repair and and sales while raising her two children. Sharon was employed by the family business until her retirement. She loved taking folks through the clock shop and telling them stories about her days riding dirt bikes and flying airplanes, including the Aluminum Overcast B-17, which was her first log book entry. Over the years, Sharon acquired over 150 hours of flight time and achieving solo flight on October 19, 1995. She was also an accomplished figure skater, she began at age 4 and by the time she was 12 she received Chicago brand roller skates that she skated on until the late 1990s. Those skates helped create many memories, including those of her and her son Jeff cutting circles on the rink to the melodies of Spirit in the Sky, Unchained Melody and anything by ELO. While flying and skating were highlights of her life experiences, her family was the most cherished aspect of her life. Sharon and Jerry provided daycare for their grandson Nick until he started kindergarten, along with many days spending quality time with their granddaughter, Amber. Sharon continued to give back to her family throughout her life, though in her later days she suffered from dementia and Alzheimer's disease, she was in overall good health until she succumbed to the final stages of her condition.

Sharon's legacy will live on through the countless memories that were made with her family and friends over the years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, William Jerry Champion (July 17, 1939 - May 19, 1999).

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff (Lynda) Champion; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry (Andrew) Miles; 3 grandchildren, Nick Champion, Amber Allen and Matthew Miles; and two great grandchildren, Katie Champion and Riker Champion.
