Mrs. Sheila Rena Harper Helton, age 49, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Monday, April 23, 2012 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. She was born January 23, 1963 in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of Mrs. Ellen Ayres Harper and the late Mr. James T. Harper. She was a devoted member of Midway United Methodist Church in Douglasville where she served as the church pianist. She earned several music degrees from Shenandoah University and Conservatory of Music and was gifted with the ability to play any instrument. Over the years, she shared her love of music by teaching many children. She was an animal lover and especially loved her own pets, Karaboo, Frankenstein, Ginger, Ellie and Mungojerrie. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joel Helton on May 17, 2004. She is survived by her loving mother, Ellen Ayres Harper of Delta, Alabama; stepdaughter, Monica Nicole Helton; her sister, Tracey Taylor Jones. Memorial Services will be conducted Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 2:00 PM from Midway United Methodist Church in Douglasville with Rev. Frank Boone officiating. According to her wishes, her body was cremated and inurnment will be at a later date at Harpers Hill Cemetery in Dadeville, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, Sheila’s family has requested that donations be made to Midway United Methodist Church, 1930 Midway Road, Douglasville, Georgia 30135. Funds donated will be used to support the music ministry which was an important part of her life. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.jones-wynn.com.
