Shelby Hord

Mr. Shelby Robert Hord, age 89, of Marietta, Georgia passed away Monday, November 11, 2013 at Vitas Hospice following an extended illness. He was born April 26, 1924 in Kalamazoo, Michigan the son of the late Mr. Shelby Hord and the late Mrs. Erma Grogg Hord. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II with the rank of Sergeant and was decorated with the Distinguished service cross with two cluster wreaths, Silver Star, Bronze star, European African middle eastern campaign medal, American campaign medal, American defense medal, Good conduct medal, Armed forces service military medal and many others. After retiring as a Kroger pharmacist, he owned and operated Family Pharmacy in Austell for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Anne Brisben Hord. He is survived by four daughters, Mary Sue Hord Williams of Douglasville, Kathy Ann Hord Dorminy, Terry Kim Hord Holtzclaw, and Shelly Lynn Hord Wethmar; two sons, Robert Conway Hord and Shelby Stephen Hord; four siblings; 31 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside Services will be conducted Friday, November 15, 2013 at 12:30 PM at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton with Rev. Leonard Akers officiating. Military Honors will be provided by members of the United States Army Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Hord may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
