Shirley Ann Beuchel passed away peacefully at home on November 9th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 31, 1953, the daughter of the late Roy Childers and the late Heather Miles Childers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Beuchel, her son, Jason Martin; and brothers, Kenny Childers, Earl (Debbie) Childers, and Roy (Tina) Childers. Shirley was the last surviving sibling of her generation.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Derek Wilga.
Shirley was a woman of quiet strength and subtle fire, feisty when it mattered, yet content to let others shine. Shirley had a way of slipping into the background, observing with stillness, but when something needed to be said, she made sure her voice was heard. This was the same whether it was something serious or not so serious, including if you forgot to get her unsweetened tea or Pepsi. You see, Shirley was born and raised in the Metro Detroit area but moved to Georgia with her daughter, son in law, and grandchildren in 2017. Shirley had always been a fan of Burger King, but after moving south, she developed a love for Chic Fil A and was often disappointed on Sundays when she forgot they were closed.
She spent most of her life working in labor-intensive, blue-collar jobs such as factories and even fast food restaurants when necessary. There were times when she worked 2 jobs to make ends meet without complaint. She was the type of person who just did what needed to be done when it needed to be. When she lost her son, Jason, she watched as her daughter found a church family that loved them and saw them through the difficult times of losing a child and a sibling. Shirley was very supportive of Maria’s decision to attend church and later on she decided to start going as well. In Michigan, Shirley occasionally attended Greater Life Apostolic Church in Utica and then faithfully attended Life Church of Roseville, MI with her family.
A few years after moving to Georgia, Shirley’s health began to decline but she always shocked everyone after every hospital admission by coming back home exactly as she was before she went in. She tried to stay active by attending the Cobb County Senior Center and attending church with her family as often as she physically could. As the years went on, the toll of having a chronic lung disease started wearing on her and even as she continued to fight, her body continued to grow weary. Ultimately, with her characteristic strength and clear mind, Shirley made the decision to enter hospice care, choosing peace and comfort surrounded by her loved ones.
A memorial service to honor Shirley’s life will be held on Saturday, November 15th, 2025 at 11:00 AM at The Rock Church located at 569 Laird Road, Hiram, GA 30141.
