Shirley Ann Swafford, age 81, of Douglasville, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023. She was born on September 10, 1942 in Lebanon, VA to the late Mr. Tommie Duty and the late Mrs. Polly Mae Duty.
Shirley had a personality that was defined by her immense capacity for love. Her love knew no bounds, as she effortlessly showered those around her with affection and warmth. Despite occasionally being stubborn, it was this very aspect that shaped her character and made her an admirable figure in the eyes of those who cherished her. One of Shirley's greatest joys in life came from spending quality time with her grandbabies. The love she held for them was immeasurable. Her legacy of love will undoubtedly continue through them as they grow. Traveling also brought joy to Shirley's life. In addition to traveling, Shirley found solace in reading, particularly when it came to studying the words within the Bible. A cherished pastime for Shirley was taking trips to the casino with her beloved sister Wanda.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James Swafford; daughter, Jeannette Thibodeaux; son, James Darren Swafford; brother, David Duty; granddaughter; Stephanie Trujillo; great grandson, Devin Haynes; sisters, Patsy Duty, Wanda Teal; daughter in law, Colleen Swafford; son in law, L.T. Thibodeaux.
She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Bert) Collins of Douglasville, Debbie (Tim) Haynes, of Douglasville, Denice Swafford of Douglasville; son, Shane Swafford of Villa Rica; brother, Bobby (Jeanine) Duty of Alabama; 22 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Flowers are accepted, however donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Mission 22.
The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville on Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Jones-Wynn. Interment will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Douglasville.
