Mrs. Mary Sue Hord Williams, 70, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016 at her residence. She was born December 16, 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of the late Mr. Shelby Robert Hord and the late Mrs. Doris Anne Brisben Hord. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University. While in college, she worked at the Rich’s in downtown Atlanta. She began her 30-year career as an educator in the City of Atlanta school system. She then went on to teach for the Douglas County School System as a Pre-K and Kindergarten teacher. She served on the committee to start the Student Apprentice Program in Douglas County. She served as Teacher of the Year at Beulah Elementary several times. After retiring, she devoted herself to serving as a Mentor at Bright Star Elementary and received the Elementary Mentor of the Year recognition for the 2013-2014 school year from the Douglas County School System. She was an active and devoted member of the Union Grove Baptist Church in Lithia Springs. She started the church library and served as the Church Librarian for many years. She had a special love for children and education. She was lovingly called “Momma Sue”and “Mrs. Sue” by many that she impacted over the years. She was devoted to her family and was especially proud of her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Shelby and Dot Hord, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Charles “Charlie” Williams; brother, Robert “Hap” Hord; father-in-law, Elizah Williams; mother-in-law, Mary Lynn Wesley Williams; sisters-in-law, Bertha Morris and Ann Williams; brothers-in-law, Marvin Baxter, A.J. Morris; and nephews, David Morris and Jonathan Hord; and many other beloved relatives. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mitzi and Adrian Teal of Douglasville; one son and daughter-in-law, Brent Williams and Lisa Wells of Douglasville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Ronnie Dorminy of Powder Springs, Kim and Terry Holtzclaw of Canton, Shelly and Stefan Wethmar of Germany; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Karen Hord of Powder Springs; sister-in-law, Diane Hord of Powder Springs; grandchildren, Austin, Adam, Alex and Ayden; Mary, Allison, and Stephen; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family members also survive. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Union Grove Baptist Church in Lithia Springs with Pastor Kenneth Hennesy officiating. Interment will follow at Union Grove Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Sue Williams may be made to Union Grove Baptist Church, 6517 Union Grove Road, Lithia Springs, GA 30122.
