Susan Cleghorn Taylor

Susan Anne Cleghorn Taylor passed away peacefully at her home on 18 December 2023. She was 96.The youngest of 5 children Sue was born at 108 Peachtree Street in Villa Rica, Georgia on 5 November 1927. Her parents were the late Emory Russell and Jessie Emily Teal Cleghorn.

In 1940 she joined the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica. Sue was a 1944 graduate of Villa Rica High School and worked at Bell Aircraft for a while in Atlanta, Georgia after her graduation. She was married to William (Bill) D. Taylor in 1948 and lived in Atlanta, Georgia. In the 1950’s Sue and Bill moved to Conyers where she became a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church. The Taylor’s moved back to the Villa Rica area in 1976 and she rejoined the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica in November 1980. Bill and Sue remained married until Bill’s death in 1990. Through the years she would work for the IRS and the John Harland Company but her main job in life was as a wife and mother. Her parents gave her the name Susan, but it quickly became shortened to Sue by family and friends. Her children called her Mama, and as grandchildren and great grandchildren came along she became known as Mama Sue and Ah Sue. Friends of her children and grandchildren even affectionately called her Mama Sue or Ah Sue. Sue loved her church, loved to travel and most of all loved her family and friends. Her travels took her to all 50 states and numerous foreign countries. She especially liked visiting Rome, Italy, because she got to walk where John the Baptist had walked. Sue was deeply devoted to her family, as they were to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Willam D. Taylor, son Gene Taylor, parents Emory Russell and Jessie Teal Cleghorn, sisters Ruby Hamrick, Inez Baxter, Edna Pittman, brother Russell Cleghorn and her constant companion Sophie.

Susan is survived by her son Teal Taylor (Kathy) of Villa Rica and daughters Lisa Taylor of Villa Rica, Linda Smith of Conyers; grandchildren Witney Bennett (David) of Whitesburg, Cody Howell (Patty) of Independence, Kentucky, Will Taylor (Veronica) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Julie Burdette of Conyers, Ricky Smith of Covington, Cole Taylor of Villa Rica, Jake Taylor (Meghan) of Hoover, Alabama and Misty Taylor of Eastaboga, Alabama ; great grandchildren Taylor Hawkes (Jacob) of Monroe, Stella Dalton of Whitesburg, Riley and Avery Howellof Independence, Kentucky, Shelby and Conner Taylor of Villa Rica; great-great grandchild Sadie Hawkes of Monroe; many nephews and nieces.

The family would like to thank Beth, Amanda, Allison, Scott, Candace, Connie, and many others of Amedisys Hospice Care for the wonderful care and kindness they gave to Sue.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on 21 December 2023 at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica, Georgia and her service will be on 22 December 2023 in the Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Villa Rica, Georgia
