Sylvia Grace Shipp Thompson, 80, of Douglasville, GA, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026. She was born on January 26, 1946, the daughter of the late Fred Shipp and the late Virgie Mae Jarman Shipp.

She lived a life characterized by warmth, love, and selflessness, leaving behind a legacy of compassion that touched all who had the privilege to know her.

Sylvia dedicated many years of her career to serving in Accounts Payable at UPS, where she worked diligently before retiring. Her passion for helping others did not end there; she later joined Youth Villages, continuing her commitment to support and uplift those around her until her retirement from that role as well. Her professional life was marked by her kindness and genuine concern for the well-being of others.

In her personal life, Sylvia was an avid lover of plants and gardening, embracing the beauty of nature and the joy it brought her. She took great pride in her yardwork and nurtured an array of plants that reflected her loving spirit. Her creativity flourished in the thoughtful bookmarks she made for children, showcasing her generous heart and dedication to brightening the lives of those around her.

A proud wife, mother, and grandma, Sylvia found immense joy in caring for her family. Her outgoing personality and her ability to never meet a stranger endeared her to many, making her a cherished friend to all. Those who were lucky enough to have known her remember her as warm, giving, and compassionate, always willing to lend a hand or offer a listening ear.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Amber Leigh Thompson who passed in 2001; and brothers, Donald Fred Shipp and Larry Leon Shipp.

She is survived by her loving husband William E. “Tommy” Thompson, Sr.; daughter, Tara Nicole Fasone; son, William E “Tommy” Thompson, Jr.; sisters, Manya (Ken) Adams, Mary Dean (Jim) Greer, and Carolyn Ward; one grandchild, Ava Fasone and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive family and friends on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Douglas Chapel.

In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated.

Sylvia's legacy will continue to resonate through the many lives she touched with her kindness and love. She is survived by her family who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
