Thomas Hicks

Mr. Thomas Frederick Hicks, age 70, of Villa Rica, passed away, Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Tanner Medical Center. He was born November 26, 1945 in Toronto, Canada, the son of the late Mrs. Gladys Hollyoake.He was a loving father and devoted grandfather. He loved hockey, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs. His claim to fame was coaching Wayne Gretzky. He retired from Northern Telecom and had the opportunity to travel to many countries. He was an avid golfer, member of the Fairfield Golf Club, where he resided and a member of the Golden City Cruisers Car Club. Mr. Hicks was an elder at Carrollton Presbyterian Church. He was a strongly opinionated, generous, determined, and charitable man. He was the type to give you the “shirt off his back” if he believed you needed it. Tom will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Jennifer “Jenny” Owens and Mike Powell of Jefferson, GA., Aimee Sullivan of Athens, TN; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Wolfgang Thunich of Toronto, Canada; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Margaret Hicks of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada; one grandson, Trey Owens of Jefferson, GA.; and “The Boys”, Jimmy Buffet and Bob Marley also survive. Memorial Services will be conducted Sunday, February 21, at 3:30 PM from the Carrollton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tom Buchanan officiating. A gathering of friends and family for a Celebration of Life will follow the services in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 17 Executive Park Drive, Atlanta, Georgia 30329.
