Thomas L Carr, Sr.

Mr. Thomas L. Carr,Sr., age 77, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Friday, January 22, 2010. He was born May 19, 1932 in Claxton, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Thomas H. Carr and the late Mrs. Nellie Brazzell Carr. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corp. During his 22 years of service in the U.S. Marines, he served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He owned and operated his own service stations in Mableton and Austell. Mr. Carr was a member of the Masonic F&AM Lodge and was a Shriner. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed Southern Gospel music. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed the time spent with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Carr was a member of the First Baptist Church of Douglasville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Richard Dale Sheriff. He is survived by his wife, Geneva Y. Carr of Douglasville; daughters, Katherine “Kathy” Sheriff of Powder Springs and Karen and Roel Torres of Villa Rica; one son, Thomas L. Carr, Jr. of Douglasville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel and Marvin Fulghum of Adel and Ethel and Bob Carter of Acworth; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, January 25, 2010 at 2:00 PM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Dr. John Pennigton officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Remembrance at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens with full military honors provided by members of the U.S. Marine Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Thomas L. Carr, Sr. may be made the First Baptist Church of Douglasville, Youth Department, 5900 Prestley Mill Road, Douglasville, GA 30135-7512.
