Mrs. U. Vee Petty Smith, age 85, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away Friday, December 21, 2012 at her home. She was born August 6, 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia the daughter of the late Mr. Snowdy Guy Petty and the late Louella Scroggins Petty. She married James Thad Smith on April 24, 1944 in Douglasville. She retired from SunTrust Bank and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Thad Smith; sister, Mattie Morris; and brothers, James Ernest Petty, Thomas “Gene” Petty and Harold Dean “Shorty” Petty, Sr. She is survived by her daughters and a son-in-law, Pat Minor of Powder Springs and Brenda and Ron Benallo of Wedowee, AL; sons and daughters-in-law, Wendell “Bo” Smith of Powder Springs, Alan and Judy Smith of Hiram, and Steve and Karen Smith of Plant City, FL; sisters, Winnie Hunter of Powder Springs and Bobbie Jean Grantham of Villa Rica; brother and sister-in-law, Linnie and Eleanor Petty of Powder Springs; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2433 Brownsville Road, Powder Springs, Georgia with Rev. Lamar Rackley and Rev. Lee Lawrence officiating. Mrs. Smith will lie in state in the church at 1:30 PM. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
