Mr. Vaulty Asbury Martin, Jr., age 84, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Monday, December 22, 2008 at Wellstar Douglas Hospital. He was born February 29, 1924 in Atlanta, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Vaulty Asbury Martin, Sr. and the late Mrs. Mary Cornelia Haynes Martin. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Powder Springs Church of God. He retired from Georgia Power as a lineman following 40 years of service and then worked for the Cobb County School System. He was an avid outdoorsman and was very athletic enjoying boating, bowling and baseball. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of 33 years, Doris King Martin in 1978; his son, Steve Alan Martin; his daughter, Patricia Ann Martin; and sister, Mildred Kirby. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marjorie Alene Kitchens Martin of Douglasville; daughters and son-in-law, Janus McNew of Douglasville, Judy Martin of Pensacola, and Paula and Buck Brown of Jacksonville, AL; sons and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Rosa Martin of Stockbridge, Michael McNew of Gadsden, AL, and John Martin of Washington, D.C.; 6 grandchildren, Clay Martin, Brian McNew, Fayedrian McCoy, Wendi Frier, Rodney McNew, and Misty Shepard; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at 11:00 AM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Carson Brown, Rev. Samuel Locklear, and Rev. Lagrand Thornton officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.
