Mrs. Velma Alice Criswell, age 86, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Friday, March 27, 2009 at Douglasville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 23, 1923 in Mt. Zion, Georgia the daughter of the late Mr. Hershel Akin and the late Mrs. Mary Dell Nichols Akin. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Douglasville and she worked for the Douglas County Board of Education for over 20 years as a school cafeteria worker. She enjoyed working in her yard, sewing, bluegrass and gospel music, and poetry. She was a devoted and loving mother to her five children. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred Akin, Alvis Akin, Horace Akin and her sister, Vera Garner. She is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce Cook of Temple, Janice and Gene Dean of Douglasville, Judy Glover of Douglasville and Jackie and Barry Easterwood of Villa Rica; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Charlotte Criswell of Douglasville; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, March 30, 2009 at 2:00 PM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Marbut and Rev. Johnny White officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehaven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel Sunday, March 29, 2009 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
