Mrs. Vera Evelyn Monroe, age 81, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Friday, December 12, 2008 at Wellstar Douglas General Hospital in Douglasville, Georgia. She was born August 15, 1927 in Polk County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Mr. John William Hayes and the late Mrs. Allie Frances Thaxton Hayes. Mrs. Monroe worked as a seamstress for Arrow Shirt Company for 27 years and then later for the Douglas County Board of Education for 10 years. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Rockmart. Mrs. Monroe enjoyed camping and traveling. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Monroe was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Guy Monroe, Sr., six brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Guy Monroe, Jr. and Lynn Monroe of Douglasville; five grandchildren: Jennifer and Shawn Grove of Lutz, Florida; Chris and Tabitha Monroe of Bowden; Mike Monroe, Alisha Otey, and Dana and Jennifer Smith, all of Douglasville; 9 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, December 15, 2008 at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville with Pastor James Cook and Pastor Henry Walraven officiating. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Polk County, Georgia. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville on Sunday, December 14, 2008 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
