Mrs. Verna Lee Williams Calloway, age 97, of Villa Rica, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at her residence. She was born June 7, 1914 in Bulloch County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Mr. Guy Morgan Williams and the late Mrs. Bertha Lee Stubbs Williams. Mrs. Calloway was a farmer most of her life. She loved gardening and it is said she could plant a stick and grow a flower. She most of all loved her grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by he husband, Layton Meldrium Calloway, Sr.; son, Morgan Elmore Calloway; brothers, Penuel Williams, Guy Morgan Williams, Jr., Joseph Clifford Williams, Muriel Williams Kickligher and grandson, Edwin Keith Melvin. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Gwendolyn and David Ray Melvin of Villa Rica, Wanda and Billy Chase of Stuart, Fl.; son and daughter-in-law, Layton and Martha Calloway, Jr. of Pensacola, Fl.; sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy Williams DeLoach of Statesboro, Sarah Williams Moore of Guyton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Millard and Christine Williams of Swainsboro, David and Richedean Williams of Guyton; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica Friday, December 2, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Anderson Primitive Baptist Church in Collins, Georgia. Mrs. Calloway will lie instate from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Anderson Primitive Cemetery in Collins, Georgia.
