Mrs. Virginia Whitfield Clay, age 85, of Austell, Georgia, formerly of Lithia Springs, passed away Monday, August 29, 2011 at Presbyterian Village following an extended illness. She was born February 27, 1926 in Atlanta, Georgia the daughter of the late Mr. John Wesley Whitfield and the late Mrs. Lovie Childress Whitfield. She married Warren Cleveland Clay on April 12, 1946 in Atlanta. She was of the Catholic Faith. She owned and operated a Christmas Tree Farm for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Cleveland Clay; and brothers, Raleigh Whitfield, Calvin Whitfield, Marvin Whitfield and J.W. Whitfield. She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Christine Clay and her husband, John E. Kauffman of Lithia Springs and Sara C. Davis of Austell; one granddaughter and her husband, Melissa and Lee Patterson of Dallas; several nieces and nephews. A rosary service will be conducted Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 4:00 PM followed by the visitation from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Friday, September 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Lithia Springs with Father Timothy Lyons officiating.
