Virginia Thomas

Mrs. Virginia F Thomas, age 91, of Temple, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014. She was born July 30, 1922 in Roopville, GA the daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Friddell and the late Mrs. Bessie Christine Key Friddell. She was a graduate of West Georgia College. She worked as the secretary of the Dean at West Georgia College, and later became secretary for Sewell Manufacturing Company in Bremen. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Temple, where she was the recording secretary for many years, a Sunday School Teacher, worked with the youth, was a member of the United Methodist Women, and was a member of the Loyalty Sunday School Class. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Murphy Harpst Children’s Center and was a delegate to the United Methodist North Georgia Annual Conference. She volunteered at the local schools, where she enjoyed reading to the children. She was a member of the Georgia Chrysanthemum Society, where she served as secretary for a number of years. She and her husband grew and showed prize winning Chrysanthemum, in her last show her flowers were awarded “Best Cut Flower” in the Southeastern show in Atlanta. She was a devoted wife of seventy years, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was often seen at grandchildren’s sporting events and loved her family time, especially Sunday dinners. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Brock; brothers, James Henry Friddell, James Fletcher Friddell, and Thomas Fridell; sisters, Mary B. Rumph, Lucille F. Burns, and Christine P. Hancock. She is survived by her husband Charles Allen Thomas, Sr. of Temple; son and daughter-in-law, Charles A. Thomas, Jr. and wife Charlene Thomas of Temple; devoted caregiver, Gladys Williamson, four grandchildren, Kevin Brock, Chris and Kelly Thomas, Jason and Jennifer Thomas and Jennifer Thomas; four great grandchildren, Carson Thomas, Avery Thomas, Harper Thomas, and Cooper Thomas.The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica, Monday, January 13, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, January 13, 2014 at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Canuel and Rev. John Norton officiating.
