Mr. W. Boyd Perry, Jr., 83, of Peachtree Street, Villa Rica, Georgia passed away Thursday, April 13, 2006 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born April 3, 1923 in Cartersville, Georgia the son of the late Mr. W. Boyd Perry, Sr. and the late Mrs. Sara Irene Spence Perry. He graduated from Cartersville High School in Cartersville, Georgia. He entered Georgia Tech and was drafted into the Air Force for three years, serving in India. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1950 with a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering and worked in Albany, Georgia at Lilliston Implement Company. He transferred to Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in 1951 where he worked until his retirement in 1987. During the time he spent at Lockheed, he was very well known with his involvement in the Management Association, holding several Vice President positions. He received several certificates of leadership and was awarded a plaque from the National Management Association for being Member of the Year in 1978. He communicated effectively by his imagination, enthusiasm, and stamina, with all levels of management and his committee chairmen. He was frequently master of ceremonies at company and Glerc functions. He enjoyed being master of ceremonies at the North Georgia Fair Queen beauty pageant. He and his wife Helen, moved to Villa Rica in 1954. He became active in the functions of the city government, being on the City Council, Gas Board, and Hospital Board, for eight years. He was given a plaque by the Mayor of Villa Rica, in appreciation for many years of dedicated service. He was a charter president of the Villa Rica Jaycees, president of the P.T.A. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica, The Unity Sunday School Class, teacher of the Young Adults, nine and ten year old class, teacher of the Unity class and Sunday School Superintendent for several years. He sang in the adult choir for forty years, he was also a member of the G. O. L. D. (Gods Older Leaders and Doers) choir. He was president of the Senior adult group of the church called the G.O.L.D. group. He was chairman of the Tape ministry of the church, and would spend hours on Monday morning to make copies on cassettes, of the services to take to the shut-ins. He was a member of the Civitan Club in Carrollton, GA and was presented a plaque as President of the club in recognition of outstanding leadership and exceptional service. He was president of Carroll County Chamber #2663 of the American Association of Retired Persons. He received a certificate of appreciation from the State Director of the AARP, in recognition of Dedicated Service as President of the local chapter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a precious daughter, Sandra Jane Perry, sisters, Sarah Marler and Edith Perry and brothers, Donald Perry and Lloyd Perry. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Helen Dyer Perry and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Dr. J.B. Marlow officiating. Musical selections will be rendered by Rev. Ben Pilgreen and Patty Dantje. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Villa Rica with military honors. The following will serve as pallbearers: Richard Freeman, Jerry Trimble, Mark Harrell, W.C. Cole, Joe Doyal, Ed Tanner, Cula Hughie, Scott Perry, Charles Cole, Gary Thomas, Marshell Freemyer, Mike Harrell, and Garrett Bailey. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica Berean Sunday School Class, New Vision Sunday School Class and the Unity Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica on Friday, April 14, 2006 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
