Walter Eugene Poss, 74 of Villa Rica, GA passed away, Sunday, March 13, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born August 8, 1941 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of the late Paul Poss and the late Alma Ruth Wilson Poss. He was of the Pentecostal Faith. He was a Lab Technician in the Road Design and Construction department with the Georgia Department of Transportation, retiring after 35 years of service. He not only helped design, but also tested asphalt that is used on many of the highways in the state today. He served in the US National Guard for 10 years where he obtained the status of Sharpshooter, and was a member of the Sharpshooter Team. He was also instrumental in helping control the riots during the Civil Rights Movement. In his spare time he loved to fish, and cut stones for local jewelry stores. He was also a Scholar of the Holy Bible. He also was of Indian Heritage and would dress in traditional Indian attire and visit schools to teach children of the Customs. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Janice Marie Gore Poss of Villa Rica, 2 sons and daughter-in-law, Donald Maxwell of Villa Rica and Tracy and Carey Maxwell of California, grandchildren and their spouses, Eric and Dayna Maxwell of Winston, Briana Maxwell of Villa Rica, Taylor Maxwell of Douglas County, Sydney Maxwell of California, Tori Revlett of Douglas County and Cameran Maxwell of California, one great granddaughter, Makenzie Maxwell of Villa Rica, and uncle, Gerald Wilson of Cobb County. Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 4:00 PM at the Christway Worship Center with Pastor Windell Patterson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request that contributions go to the Christway Worship Center, 3281 Carrollton-Villa Rica Highway, Carrollton, GA 30116.
