SSG William Martin Alberter of Villa Rica, GA, born Dec 6, 1964 in Indiana, PA passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012. SSG Alberter entered the army at the young age of 17. He was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm in 1991, Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003, and Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2006. He was a member of Det 2, 4/108th Chemical Battalion, Anniston, AL at the time of his passing. His awards and medals include: Combat Action Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, GCM, ARCAM, NDSM, Southwest Asia Service Medal, GWOTSM, Iraq Campaign Medal, NPDR, ASR, Overseas Service Ribbon, (AFRM) W/ M, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait). SSG Alberter dedicated his life to the country he loved, the soldiers he served with, and his family. He was a hero who saved the lives of many of his fellow soldiers, was a devoted, loving and supportive husband and stepfather, and a die-hard Steelers fan. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Catherine Alberter, stepson Christopher Cleghorn, and parents Francis Joseph and Shirley Louise Alberter.Graveside services will be conducted by CH (CPT) Robert Baima at 9:30 AM on Tuesday Nov 27, 2012 at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Veterans Cemetery Rd, Canton GA 30114, with interment to follow.
