William Ellis Carroll, age 84, affectionately known as Billy, passed away on October 10, 2024, at his daughter’s home in Estill Springs, Tennessee. He was born on March 8, 1940, to the late Mr. John Carroll and the late Mrs. Eunice Carroll.
He was a cherished member of the community, known for his dedication and hard work as a retired Railroad Union Mechanic and Union President. Billy was a proud Air Force Veteran, having served his country honorably. His time in the military shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of duty and respect that remained with him throughout his life.
In addition to his professional achievements, Billy had a rich tapestry of interests that brought joy not only to himself but also to those around him. He was a fan of NFL football, particularly devoted to the Atlanta Falcons and the Tennessee Volunteers. His enthusiasm extended beyond football to NASCAR racing, where he could often be found cheering for his favorite drivers. Furthermore, he enjoyed fishing, a pastime that brought him peace and comfort.
Billy had a special way of connecting with those he cared about. He loved talking to his friends on the phone, and his warm spirit and engaging personality will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Billy, was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Josephine Moore Carroll, after 50 years of marriage. He is also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Kent Norwood.
Billy is survived by his loving daughter, Patricia Ann Norwood, and son Chuck and Melissa Moore.
Billy is survived by 4 grandsons, Jason, Brian, Matt and Charlie; 2 granddaughters, Crystal and Shannon; 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
A visitation to celebrate Billy’s life will take place on October 17, 2024, at the Jones-Wynn - Douglas Chapel in Douglasville, Georgia, from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM. Following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 8:30 AM, and he will be laid to rest at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, at 11:00 AM.
Billy's legacy of kindness, dedication, and fun-loving spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He loved his family and will be greatly missed.
