William E. Durrett

Mr. William E. Durrett, 75, of Villa Rica, Georgia passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. Mr. Durrett was born April 25, 1932 in Carroll County, Georgia the son of the late Ernest Watson Durrett and the late Katie Smith Durrett. Mr. Durrett worked in the Accounting Department and was on the Board of Regents at Kennesaw State University. He also served as Vice President of Kennesaw State University until his retirement in May of 1997. Mr. Durrett was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean conflict on the USS Yorktown. During his service he was awarded several decorations, medals and commendations including the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, and National Defense Medal; and was also a Golden Gloves Boxer. Mr. Durrett, the “Fairfield Golfer”, was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Runette Cooper Durrett; son, Donald William Durrett; and sister, Mary Jane Cheney. Survivors include his loving wife, Jenny Axt Durrett, to whom he married on December 10, 1994; daughter and son in-law, Pamela Kathryn and Dennis Duff of Naples, Florida; son and daughter in-law, Jeff and Barbara Durrett of Holly Springs; son, Gregory Durrett of Canton; and daughter in-law, Alicia Durrett of Dallas; step daughters and their spouses, Peggy and Tom Hicks of Villa Rica, and Patty and Virgil Williams of Monroe; step sons, Freddy Farrenkopf of Loganville, and Steve Farrenkopf of Carrollton; sisters, June Crowe, Patricia Fowler, Katherine Wallace, and Judy Snelson all of Marietta; brother, Tom Durrett of Temple; eight grandchildren, nine step grandchildren; three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica with Pastor Jim Wallace officiating. Interment will follow at Asbury Cemetery in Temple. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica on Saturday, March 29, 2008 from 1:00 PM until the service hour.
