Mr. William Talmadge âBillâ âHossâ Kay, Sr., 86, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017. Born August 31, 1930 in Ocala, Florida, son of the late Mr. Willie Louis Kay and the late Mrs. Mattie "Belle" Cole Kay, Talmadge was the oldest of seven. His laughter and humor made him known as the king of one liners. He was the most kind, gentle, helpful and hard-working man youâd ever meet. A US Navy veteran, he served during the Korean War on the USS Fletcher and USS Radford, Pearl Harbor, and USS Spangler and USS Moore, San Diego. Bill met Christ in 1955 and Jesus changed his life. He married Olene Johnson on November 30, 1956, and they lived 42 years in Lithia Springs before moving to Carrollton in 1998. He LOVED Olene and his family well.A member of Midway Macedonia Baptist Church in Carrollton, GA, Bill served God faithfully for 60 years. He donated many hours doing electrical work at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and served as Treasurer of Youth Baptist Church. He loved babies, so he and Olene were two of the few people in their 70âs who still regularly kept church nursery. He saw the best in people, constantly lent a helping hand, and generously shared from the huge garden he and Olene raised.He not only enjoyed his work, he was ingenious at solving electrical problems. He retired as an electrician with the IBEW Local 613. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Olene Johnson Kay on May 7, 2012; brothers, Benny Jo Kay and Charles Larry Kay. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shelia and Steve Sullivan of Blue Ridge and Sally and Todd Jackson of Blue Springs, MO; one son and daughter-in-law, William T. âBillyâ Kay, Jr. and Heather Kay of Carrollton; his sisters, Betty Fraas and Mary Horsley both of Fayetteville; brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert and Julia Kay of College Park, and Dr. James Kay of Douglasville; seven grandchildren, Michael Sullivan, Matthew Sullivan, Stefanie Helton, Rebecca Helton, Jacob Helton, Sarah Kay, and Bethany Kay; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa Sullivan, Sean Sullivan, Emma Austin, Ryleigh Helton; many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville with Rev. Lamar Rackley officiating. Interment will follow at Carroll Memory Gardens in Carrollton with military honors provided by members of the United States Navy Honor Guard.
