William Layton

Mr. William Thomas “Tom” Layton, age 86 of Lithia Springs, Georgia, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018. He was born June 22, 1932 in Lowndes County, Georgia, the son of the late William Thomas Layton, Sr. and the late Mrs. Effie Irene Kirkland Layton. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served as a Sergeant in the National Guard of Georgia. He married Mrs. Sarah Boyette on August 13, 1951 in Thomasville, Georgia. He was a Registered X-ray Technologist who started his own business, Layton X-Ray Services, Inc. in 1956, which was the first x-ray service in Atlanta. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, doing crossword puzzles, reading, music, and always staying busy doing something. He was a member of Midway United Methodist Church in Douglasville.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Stephane McMillan; brothers, Paul Layton, Arthur Layton, and Billy Layton; and sister, Cheryl Layton. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Mrs. Sarah Boyette Layton of Lithia Springs, Four sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Lindsay Layton, Steve and Debbie Layton, Chris and Elaine Layton, and Todd Layton all of Lithia Springs; Sisters and a brother-in-law, Grace Scarborough, and Judy and Robert Ledet; Grandchildren: Katie, Alex, Jamie, Stacey, Cassie, Kelly, Hannah, Tommi and Josie. Great Grandchildren: Hayden, Landon, Charlie, Zachary, Will, Chance, Grace, Layton, Joslyn, Leah, Terri, Aubrey, Amber, Jaxon, and Dylan. One great-great grandchild Emersyn; Also survived by numerous Nieces and Nephews. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services for Mr. Layton will be conducted Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 2:00 PM from Fellowship Baptist Church, 2239 Hutchinson Pond Rd, Hahira, Georgia 31632 with Pastor Ike Jefferson officiating. Mr. Layton will Lie-in-State at the church from 1:00PM until the funeral hour.
