William McLaughlin

Mr. William “Bill” James McLaughlin, age 84, of Bremen, passed away, Tuesday, April 19, 2016. He was born June 25, 1931, in Jamaica, NY, the son of the late Mr. William Joseph McLaughlin and the late Mrs. Edna Gray McLaughlin. He attended elementary schools in New York, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in Jamaica and later receiving a degree in Construction Technology from the State University and Technical Institute at Farmingdale, NY. He received various athletic awards, including Highest NRA Rifleman in both high school and college. Upon graduation from college he entered the Armed Services and was stationed at the Army Aviation School, Fort Sill, OK, and then with the 506th Helicopter Battalion at Fort Benning, GA. Mr. McLaughlin was a member of Oakland City Lodge No. 373, F&AM, Atlanta, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1972-73. He served as Illustrious Master of Euclid Council No. 33, Royal and Select Masters, Atlanta, and as King of Mt. Horeb Chapter No. 155, Royal Arch Masons, Atlanta. He was a member of Hebron Commandery No. 23, Knights Templar, Carrollton. He received his Degrees of the Order of the Eastern Star in Oakland City Chapter No. 260, Atlanta, serving as Worthy Patron in 1970-71; as District Grand Deputy in 1971-1972; appointed Grand Sentinel of the Grand Chapter of Georgia, O. E. S., in 1972; elected Associate Grand Patron in 1973 and Worthy Grand Patron 1974-1975.He was a member of Bremen First Baptist Church. He was self-employed. On August 4, 1974, he and Ruth McGukin Holloman were united in marriage. In addition to his lovely wife Ruth, he was honored and pleased to have acquired two daughters and two sons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth McGukin McLaughlin; one sister, Gail McLauglin. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda and Tom Howard of Bremen; Laura and Dennis McBrayer of Bremen; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Adair Holloman of Houston, TX; Richard and Sherry Holloman of Bremen, GA; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends at Bremen First Baptist Church, Thursday, April 21, 2016, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Mr. McLaughlin will lie in state Friday, April 22, 2016 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, April 22, 2016, at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Bremen First Baptist Church with Rev. Herman Parker officiating. Mr. Wes Holloman will deliver the Eulogy. Interment will follow at Center Point Cemetery in Temple. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Walk This Way Building Fund, Bremen First Baptist Church, 331 Pacific Ave., Bremen, GA. 30110.
