William “Billy” Paul Thompson, 76, of Douglasville, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024. He was born on January 21, 1948, the son of the late William Andrew Thompson and the late Ellen Gladys Tarleton Thompson.
Billy dedicated his life to serving others and made a lasting impact on those he encountered. For over four decades, Billy worked tirelessly at the National Car Rental Company. He never met a stranger and derived genuine joy from engaging with people from all walks of life. He was actively involved in Union Grove Christian Church. His dedication to his church was unwavering, reflecting his unwavering devotion to his beliefs. In addition to his involvement in the church, Billy dedicated himself to the Villa Rica Senior Center. Billy's selflessness extended beyond civilian life as well. Serving two tours in Vietnam as a proud veteran of the US Army, he exhibited extraordinary bravery and sacrifice for his country. His military service demonstrated a remarkable strength of character.
Outside of his professional accomplishments and community involvement, Billy found joy in simple pleasures. He cherished spending quality time with his children and grandchildren, whom he deeply loved.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Faye Sticher Thompson; brother, Andy Thompson and his sister Connie Wilson.
He is survived by son, Jamie Thompson and his fiancé Susan Barr of Villa Rica, Kevin Thompson of Anniston, AL; daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Chris Clark of Wesley Chapel, Florida; sister, Betty Thompson, Gayle Nalley, and Gay Clark; grandchildren, Phenix, Chasidy, Crystal, Destiny, Haley, Addison, Jackson and Colson; five great-grandchildren; several very special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Villa Rica Chapel from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Union Grove Christian Church. Interment will follow at Union Grove Christian Church Cemetery.
The funeral service will be lived streamed from the church.
